I’ve been super busy getting artwork finished for the upcoming 1975 show, By the Pale Moonlight. Four pieces in all, a painting, two inks and a photo/paint mix. I can’t wait to see all the work that everyone has prepared- the show opens in just three short days! Here is a sneak peak at three out of the four pieces.

First Son of Loki

Participated in a 5K Run for Ovarian Cancer last weekend. I finished the race better than I thought I would- I had a lot of fun, and you can never go wrong helping out a great cause!

This past week:

• Kickball team went 6 & 0. We are killing it. =)
• Met Sky Sands, a guy that has some great stories as well as some awesome magic tricks. I LOVE meeting new people – especially those of quality.
• Contacted by a few recruiters for possible job opportunities. (yay!)
• Public Market, the Ravioli Shop, Beers of the World, Contagion (Worst. Movie. Ever.)

It’s been three AWESOME years since 1975 and Surface first partnered up, and we can’t just contain the party to the old space. We’re going to kick off our next year by welcoming a new art space into our family, and this one is a doozy!

To make it even more special, we’ve reached out to an INCREDIBLE roster of talented artists to help us make this show even more memorable than our other shows.

The show will be on the third floor above Flour City Bakery, in Rochester’s brand new art space (whose name will be revealed that night), located in the Rochester Public Market, 280 Union St. North, Rochester, NY 14609.

Use the Union St. entrance to the Public Market, and the entrance to the space is immediately to the left of Flour City Bakery. There are two flights of stairs.

This week has been a whirlwind of stuff to do / getting done. Attended birthdays and gatherings, played kickball and poker (won in both), watched lots of football, worked on drawings/artwork for the upcoming 1975 show (announcement coming soon) and new cards to send out- I read, updated some code on my website (including an install of Google Analytics) and hunted for jobs. Played chess and drank whiskey with my brother last night – twas a wonderfully relaxing end of the day.

Sent out three more cards today – my goal is to have twenty cards out by Monday. Working on artwork for the upcoming 1975 show as well – I have sketched out all my characters – now for the finals. Watercolor illustrations of children in halloween masks and costumes – framed. Shweeeeet.

On tonights menu – sweet Italian sausage topped with sautéed sweet banana peppers, onions and jalapenos  served with a white sweet corn succotash (all veggies local and fresh from the farmers market). MMmmmmmmm. What a most excellent day this has been / will be.

Started reading a new book today- Proust Was a Neuroscientist (after most recently finishing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). Loved ALVH, loving PWAN thus far.

Of course, this isn’t the way knowledge is supposed to advance. Artists weave us pretty tales, while scientists objectively describe the universe. In the impenetrable prose of the scientific paper, we imagine a perfect reflection of reality. One day, we assume, science will solve everything.

In this book, I try to tell a different story. Although these artist witnessed the birth of modern science – Whitman and Eliot contemplated Darwin, Proust and Woolf admired Einstein – they never stopped believing in the necessity of art. As scientists were beginning to separate thoughts into the anatomical parts, these artists wanted to understand consciousness from the inside. Our truth, they said, must begin with us, with what reality feels like.

This weekend will be spent at the Public Market and the  Clothesline Festival. I would like to get some herbs to grow in my big tomato planter for the fall and winter – they have all sorts there, I should be able to make a nice mix. Another cold day today, high of 69. My peppers are quite aching for sunshine – not sure if I will get them to ripen any more, but I’ll keep them out until it starts to freeze at night.

In between taking the time to find a new jobby job to pay the bills, I am crafting and coding up a storm. Today has largely been spent coding updates to my website. Added my resume, and added some more content to the Art Portfolio section. Working more on some artwork for the upcoming 1975 group show and also creating a bunch of neato card-stock cards  (I made the cards fashioned after one I made for my Grandmother on her birthday).

Started a sculpture a few weeks back I would like to finish some point this week.
