I like to design and create cool things.

This site is a collection of my work, a bit about me and some ramblings about the stuff that I love.

I volunteer and donate, you should too.

I have been out of work for a bit of time now and have decided to turn up the heat on my efforts in landing my next challenging career.  I most recently held the position of the Director of Marketing for a local machining company and am looking for another full time position that will allow me to use both my creative and strategic skills.

I’m a hard worker, a fast learner and a dedicated person that gets along nicely with many different types of personalities. My skills are varied and can be found by reading my resume.

If you or your company has a need for my abilities, please contact me to set up an interview, I look forward to hearing from you.

WEBSITE NAME

You may be asking yourself what my website name is all about and/or wondering how I came up with such a weirdo name. I'm here to put that question to rest.

Let’s start with the Otaku (oh-tah-coo) part.

Loosely translated, Otaku (Japanese in origin) means your house; your home -
It can be associated with one that enjoys anime, computers and playing video games. Although used with pride by many western fans to describe themselves, the term carries a negative connotation in Japan, such as 'Trekkie' does here.

Anime... before you ask, is "the Japanese word for animation and is used by the Japanese to describe all forms of animation. In the west it is used to describe specifically Japanese animation. The correct pronunciation is ‘ah-nee-may’ but the more common western pronunciation is ‘anna-may’.".

Anime can range from the very silly to the very serious, and is not necessarily intended for any specific age group.

I felt that using ‘Otaku’ was appropriate in view of the fact that on any given day you will usually find me; taking mad amounts of photographs with one of many cameras, on the computer reading / designing, painting / drawing / crafting, reading a book (comic/manga or otherwise) playing with my kitten, watching a bit of TV/Anime (check out my library!), playing video games, or doing general things around the house.

I added the ‘Lab’ because, well, I like making things.
Put the two together and, VOILA! You have, ‘OtakuLab’.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Expression is an important part of my life, regardless the medium.

I go out; I bring a camera and a handful of film. I get an itch to paint, I paint;
to draw, I draw; to sew, I sew.

I have an appreciation for lines, their weight and their balance. Shapes and people fascinate me, and in my own abstract way I incorporate them into many of my pieces. I enjoy the use of colors and how they can blend together to form a feeling about a piece regardless of the foreground subject. Light is magical.

I have seen death and violence, as well as birth and humanity – they have all shaped me as an artist and allow me to have a unique outlook on life that reflects in my work.

My paintings mostly consist of acrylics, spray paint, white out, ink, markers and oil pastels. Leads, markers and ink for drawing; film photography preferred over digital. Canvas, wood panels, rocks, cork, records - I paint on anything I can get my hands on. The end result is as varied as the mediums used.
